Preparing meals for our Community
Chop and Chat
Chop and Chat is an off shoot of our Soup for Schools initiative, and started with some leftover funding we had. A church parish took on the funds and recruited volunteers who get together once or twice a month to cook large batches of soups and other meals. The meals are then donated to our local food pantry, which is based out of the Mansfield Christian Fellowship Church (Contact: 03 5779 1213).
We are extremely fortunate to have recently been the recipient of a very generous $5000 donation from Community Bank – Mansfield & District. These funds will enable the longevity of the project.
Chop and Chat was originally named Soup for All, the name change came about when the volunteers leading this project realized the social impact it was having on the volunteers who were coming together to cook the meals, it was providing them with strong social connections and sense of purpose.
The rebranding to Chop and Chat succinctly articulates how the initiative hits two key themes of the Mansfield Respond Project; Food & Nutrition AND Community Resilience & Connectivity.
